A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world
– Louis PasteurVin En Noir was born out of a passion to bring a vibrant, inclusive wine experience to the Napa Valley. It started with an idea at Magnolia Street Wine Lounge and Kitchen, where I introduced a wine program that reflected my love for culture, storytelling, and community through wine. While the demographics there didn’t quite take to it, the vision never faded — it evolved.
I created Vin En Noir to build a place where wine could be appreciated by everyone — a space that celebrates diversity, connection, and discovery. Here, we bring together people who are curious about wine, open to learning, and ready to enjoy something different in the heart of the Valley.

2020
Vin En Noir grew from a journey that began in 2020 with the opening of Magnolia Street Wine Lounge and Kitchen, right at the start of the pandemic. Those early days were challenging — in-person dining was non existent, and we had to innovate to stay connected with our community. We introduced a text message ordering system, sending daily menus directly to our customers and taking orders by text until we could safely welcome people inside.
During this time, we also partnered with World Central Kitchen, ensuring our overhead was covered while simultaneously feeding our community through 2023. It was a period defined by creativity, resilience, and a deep commitment to people.

Spring/Summer 2021
California gradually allowed indoor dining at limited capacity, with mask requirements and distancing. Magnolia Street could welcome guests inside again, complementing ongoing takeout and outdoor service.

2022 - 2023
At its peak, Magnolia Street Wine Lounge was one of Oakland’s most celebrated brunch destinations. Lines stretched out the door, with eager diners willing to wait up to two hours for a table. The vibrant energy, inventive menu, and communal spirit made it a neighborhood staple — a place where friends gathered, weekends came alive, and brunch was an experience to savor.
However, the landscape began to shift. Rising crime rates in Oakland and changing local and political dynamics made operating increasingly difficult. Creative concepts and collaborations with influencers drew attention but didn’t resonate enough to sustain the business. After years of resilience, innovation, and unforgettable moments, Magnolia Street Wine Lounge closed its doors in October 2023.
